The Darkest Corners
by Kara Thomas
Nice girls are always the ones who get hurt. It’s like the universe gets some sort of perverse pleasure out of taking out the nice girls one by one, while the whole world watches and gets some perverse pleasure from mourning the loss of yet another nice girl.
The Darkest Corners is a novel that keeps you on your toes, guessing until the very end.
I was a huge fan of the maturity of this novel, and the relationships with the characters. The lack of romance was awesome, and it would have felt out of place in this type of novel.
Tessa has a really interesting voice. She comes from a shit life, and how this is portrayed in her telling of this story is what makes this an interesting read.
The answer to the mystery, I felt, was really satisfying. The two sub-plots answered. I honestly would love to see this as a movie.
I had a little trouble distinguishing between the characters like Lori and Annette. I feel like there were too much characters for a stand alone novel, because I just didn't get any distinct characteristics between the minor characters, but I guess thats just a little thing.
