Bird Box
by Josh Malerman
I gave the book a rating of 5 stars based on my personal enjoyment of the story. The premise is original and reminds me of the works of Junji Ito. Malerman does an excellent job of pacing the story while letting it shift from the past to the present. I found myself actually having to put the book down at times when it was making me a bit too anxious.
More objectively, I wish some of the side characters had more fleshing out.
Because I usually expect unsatisfying endings in horror stories, I was not disappointed by the ending for a few reasons (which contain spoilers!). I've already added a few of the author's other works to my 'to be read' list.
P.S. The author lives in the city right next to mine! So, extra love right there.
