Rashōmon and Seventeen Other Stories by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa

4.0

Don't just read it just because you liked the movie - which is an expanded fusion of the first two stories. But do read it, maybe.

The range from dark (a man watches his beloved daughter tied up and set on fire in a carriage) to very dark (the last section is essentially an extended suicide note).

It's a great beach read, assuming you like your trips to the beach to be somber and disturbing (as I do).
