God this was a slog to get through. This book took me almost a month to finish, which anyone who knows me knows is ridiculous. I liked the first one enough to read The Martyr, and it nearly killed me. The worst part is that there's so much about this series that I really like. I like the characters, I like the story, I really like the setting (especially now this book has expanded it) - I just wish it wasn't written by someone who clearly fell out of the author tree and hit every thesaurus in existence on the way down.
