This book was very nice, but it felt like it jumped and fell flat on its face...

The concept was interesting, a mysterious and feared witch taking a person to be her companion (and probably killing them), a girl offering herself up and (unsurprisingly) falling in love with the witch.
Alas, the plot twists/revealed secrets were not as shocking as they could've been. And the characters were... bland.
Mina, our protagonist, was not very lovable and I didn't care what happened to her. She liked geography, but that was her only inch of personality, apart from stubbornness.
Witch was probably the best character, a very low bar to reach. I think she'd be better as a villain rather than misunderstood.
The one big thing that annoyed me was the lack of diversity. Sure, 19th century Germany was probably racist, but this book has witches so why not change society a bit to be more racially diverse?
Was this the best book? No.
Do I recommend it? Sure, if you like witches.
