That Was Then, This is Now by S.E. Hinton

fast-paced

5.0

This book seems to have taken place a few years after The Outsiders. Both take place in the 1960’s. They mention how the greasers and the Socs are different now. Just like in The Outsiders, this book touches on friendship but in such a different way. So much change is happening and seeing best friends Mark and Bryon try and navigate through that was super relatable. Change is inevitable and sometimes we out grow our friends and sometimes they do something that’s unforgivable. It really shows how acting on impulse can change everything. I really wish I had the ebook for this one so I could highlight my favorite quotes. One of them was about how exhausting it is to care about people and that really resonates with me. It was great being back in this universe and seeing Ponyboy be mentioned. I would read 15 more books in this universe if the author would only write them. I listened to the audiobook and it was perfect. I just wish I had the ebook to highlight as I listened. I’ll do that on my re read because there will be one soon.
