White Trash Warlock

funny
Overall: 3.25
White Trash Warlock is an urban fantasy story that gives off Supernatural vibes. Young magic user Adam Binder is called by his brother Bobby to come to Denver after Bobby's wife becomes possessed. There is bad blood between the brothers after Bobby had Adam committed to the psych ward years ago because he failed to understand his brother's magic, a gift inherited from their abusive, deadbeat dad.
Liked:
- Being similar to early Supernatural is a huge plus. Two estranged brothers are united after years apart, and one of their significant others gets possessed by something evil. There is even a special old car that belonged to their father.
- Urban fantasy is a fun genre. The blending of worlds was really cool and made for some interesting worldbuilding and surprising twists.
- This doesn't shy away from brutality, which led to a few good action scenes.
- Adam's brother and Mom are still hateable, even with the depth added to them as the story goes on.
Didn't Like:
- I don't fully understand the magic system and how it works between the realms.
- Adam and Vic's relationship kind of annoyed me. Way too much "Would he still like me if I didn't save his life?"
- To the point about Bobby and the mom, people not believing in magic or supernatural things even after experiencing them annoys the hell out of me.
