Twenty Boy Summer
by Sarah Ockler
Let's start off by saying that I was truly surprised by Twenty Boy Summer. I thought I knew what to expect from this book, thought I had an idea of what could happen - well, I was wrong, very wrong.
I hadn't even finished the first page and already I was hooked, completely immersed in the story. Sarah Ockler created such a captivating story filled with love, loss, heartbreak and mixed up feelings with no true explanation; interesting characters with so many quirks and fears that you could immediately connect with them.
**MEGA SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT.. so just stop reading this if you haven't read the book yet!**
I think Anna was my favorite, simply because I connected so deeply with her. She was so strong and gave so much to those around her while still keeping herself intact, like, she gave into what Frankie wanted easily, partly because of the death of her brother, Matt, a year ago, which no one had truly seemed to recover from.
Frankie was a great character too. I really believed that she'd changed completely from the shy girl to this full-out "experienced" girl. Really, it was just a way of hiding her grief.. becoming her own person because of it.
This book was a real tear-jerker for me. I found myself fighting back tears soo often. It was such an amazing book though, I was so happy when Anna met Sam, I was really hoping that they'd find a way to stay together.. they seemed so perfect together. Like, Sam was super sweet and caring and I think that Anna really needed someone like that.
I was amazed by Frankie and Anna's friendship. Even through the most horrible fight ever they still managed to keep their friendship.
All in all it's an amazing read, I hope Ockler publishes another book soon! I'd love to read it, she's an amazing author.
