I have not enjoyed myself this much in a contemporary romance in a LONG time. This was basically perfect! I cried a little. I empathized with the main characters. I laughed a bunch. The motivations made sense. There was character growth. Just really great all around!
The camp setting is super cute. The cast of characters is great and everyone has such a distinct personality that it is easy to get immersed into the story.
I really liked that this wasn’t the typical “sport romance” since Russ doesn’t talk about hockey that much. That is typically what keeps me away from sport romances.
I love that Aurora is confident and Russ is the shy one. They both have parental issues that make them so believable in how they talk about how it’s affected them and really deepens their characters. They seem really relatable and real, and I love that! I also really like that Russ is a rule follower and Aurora wants to work on herself and improve herself over the summer. It gives them a great basis for character growth along with relationship growth between them.
I also love that they mention both being “miscommunicators” and call out when they misinterpret each other’s actions while having actual conversations to talk things through. They have a healthy relationship with communication! Their banter is funny, and they have little inside jokes between them which is really cute. Russ’ date was the cutest thing ever. Aurora’s birthday presents were also super cute.
The book feels like a long slow burn with the “no fraternization” rule in the camp even after their one night stand at the beginning of the book.
