Mantras & Minotaurs by Ashley Bennett

5.0

If you want a truly cozy romance with a side of monster, that feels like wrapping the most comfortable, safe blanket around you, then look no further.

I was lucky enough to get an Arc copy of this book but then didn't have the energy to review it back then. So here I am now, about to sing this books praise. Are you ready?

This is a later in life romance, featuring Pam and Alistair aka Tegans mom and a minotaur who is Chai's dad :)

SPOILER START

They meet on a dating app but things evolve pretty quickly between them because they have a deadline since Alistair is only here to visit his daughter and will fly back home soon!

Thus we embark on this wonderfully sweet and sappy romance. They hit it off pretty quickly and while Pam struggles with being a widow who's only ever been with one (weasely, stinky) man in her entire life, Alistair has already accepted her as the goddess of his life.
Unfortunately, their fuzzy little bubble of love, crab rangoons and...lots of sexy fun, is invaded by real life and Alistair having to go back home where he will have to deal with his own struggles that come with running a business but also being in retiring age but not entirely willing to accept that yet.

But worry not! They do decide on staying in touch and doing long distance.

And they find out how much distance makes the heart grow fonder, because Pam decides, fuck being afraid of being on a plain I'm going to surprise my man!

And she does. And they have some happy fun time out in the open on a snow mobile.

SPOILER END

I loved this book so much, I was positively buzzing. I made my best friend read this IMMEDIATELY because I needed her to catch up so I could scream in her dms about just how much this book made me feel. This was just such a soft and cozy romance and even though I am not the targeted audience for this book since I'm just a creature in my twenties and not a lovely person like Pam or Alistair in their fifties, I found myself still being able to relate to the characters, especially Pam. I caught myself rooting for them and really hoping that they would both continue to believe in what they had even though I knew it was gonna be a HEA story. The affirmations in each chapter made me smile. Pam was inspirational, the way she wanted to and therefore, proceeded to work on herself and how rather than doing it for her like in a lot of romances, Alistair simply complemented her efforts, encouraging her and being there for her and vice versa.

Really, the only gripe I have with this book is that Alistair sold his beautiful residence lmao Like, hello??? Romantic holiday cabin in the woods???

I truly have become a big fan of Ashley Bennetts writing and I will be reading the next book in this series once it drops. And frankly, any writing Ashley has published or will.
