PASTORAL POST-APOCALYPSE
I’ve had this one on my TBR for literal decades, saving it for a rainy day because I had a feeling it would be a new favorite. It’s got all the best tropes of a pastoral post-apocalyptic story: road trip, animal encounters, post-apoc “shopping” trips, caregiving of other survivors, found family, and an emphasis on the nature of humanity’s emotional needs, adaptability, creativity and curiosity. Conflict is minimal and based on interpersonal conflicts and the birthing pains of forming new relationships.
Also, Sam Youd’s/John Christopher’s writing is superb and expressive. Loved it.
