Pretty Things by Janelle Brown
3.0

This is a chick lit thriller, perfect for the holidays or when you just want easy escapism. It has all the twists and shocking reveals you would expect from this type of book.

Nina is a con artist that learned the finer points of the trade from her own mother. And now that her mother is sick (again) Nina needs to step up and take care of the very expensive medical treatments. This time she needs to score big so she can finally walk away from this life.

Vanessa is a trust fund baby, an Instagram influencer and has the world at her feet dressed in shiny clothes and jewels. Just the type of mark that Nina was hoping for.

The story is told from both Nina and Vanessa’s point of view and overall, this was a very fast easy read, with just a little less depth than I had hoped for. I would have liked for the story to have carried on with the momentum built in the first half as the setup was very strong.

This book won’t change your life, and you may not even remember the finer points of it in a few weeks from now but as an easy fluff read it did its job.
