Mina's Matchbox
by Yōko Ogawa
To preface, I listened to the audiobook. Could have been a two without the zionist remarks (wonder if the translation obscured the original Japanese but the English is what I have to go off of).
Coming of age story with a lot of tension building up to … nothing? Maybe could read it as the grandeur of youth fizzling out to an average adulthood. To me it’s a book about the daily life of one family with a couple of compelling characters and others that are constantly praised for their charm and beauty without much exploration of their character. Anyways disappointed even though I tempered expectations given audiobook vs book
