at the point when i decided to give this a shot, i had heard many many amazing things about ann liang's books AND that they had academic-rivals to lovers, so i was basically like "you got me hooked. sign me up." to my bedroom wall but nobody cares abt that ✋ overall i was super excited to get into this world of southeast asian fiction, and let me tell you - it did not disappoint.

boarding school setting? academic rivals? magical realism? mhm, that's right, folks, we got it all. i won't bother explaining the plot because you've got a million different reviews for that and a synopsis. that's not my job. anyway, you're telling me alice can turn INVISIBLE?? how?? well the thing is, you don't know how. and you won't find out how. but that's the thing with magical realism in books - you get the concept, not the reason. but honestly? i don't care. i'm here for the experience. the freaking app they created?? okay wait, the app that *henry* created?? insane. like i wish i knew someone who could make apps. i also really love how ann liang expressed the life of middle-class students and their families, and the hardships they face. it really shows you how this world is much tougher to live in than it seems. and the last point of this segment isssss, drumrolls pleasee ........ ann liang's writing!! woohoo! *clears throat* it is amazing. very easy to dive into, fast-paced, yet it holds a beauty of its own kind. enjoyed it a lot :)))

HENRY LI AND ALICE SUN SUPREMACY, PEOPLE!! A HUGE ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR THEM!!
the way you could feel the tension between them from the beginning. absolutely crazy. like within 50 pages of the book, i was internally screaming "JUST CONFESS ALREADY!!!!!". and then, THE AMOUNT OF TIMES THEY ALMOST KISSED almost killed me. i swear my heart rate literally hiked up and lowered back down within 30 seconds more than three times during my reading process
