The Uncharted Flight of Olivia West
by Sara Ackerman
What an amazing story!!
This story is told in a dual timeline its 1927 and 1987 and told from the two female characters points of view Olivia West and Wren Summers.
Olivia West a teenage girl and a daughter of a fisherman from San Diego, she so desperately wants to learn to fly, she works by doing odd jobs at a flight school and hopes one day she will be give the chance to train to be a pilot
James Dole, owner of the Hawaiian Pineapple Company also known as the Pineapple King” has an idea of an air race that flies from San Diego to Honolulu, the race is 2,400 miles which crosses the Pacific Ocean! Olivia wants to take part. She soon discovers that only men can register to be the pilots, she soon meets Felix Harding the owner of a monoplane and he chooses Olivia to be his navigator. Soon she finds herself setting out on a harrowing journey that some will not survive.
Wren Summers a struggling artist, whose boyfriend cheats on her and leaves her broke. Wren is shocked when she inherits a remote piece of land on the Big Island! The island has nothing on it but a barn that’s falling apart and an overgrown macadamia nut grove.
Wren plans on selling the land and using the money to live on, but she soon is drawn in by the mysterious objects kept in the barn by her late great-uncle––clues to a tragic piece of aviation history lost to time. Determined to find out what really happened all those years ago, Wren enlists the help of residents at a nearby retirement home to uncover Olivia’s story piece by piece. What she discovers is more earth-shattering, and closer to home, than she could have ever imagined.
This story was unbelievable and took my breath away! I loved it and couldn’t read the book fast enough!! I learned a lot and found the characters coming off the pages!!
