immersive world-building -- the rebellion -- Indian & Persian mythology

Roshan is struggling to maintain control of her clan of bandits while also fighting for the rights of her people in their slowly dying land; Prince Navin is the ostracized 'Peri prince' who is ignored by his grandmother, the Queen, and doesn't totally understand his soul magic. In an attempt to extort the Queen to acquiesce to their demands, the Shadow Clan takes Navin hostage, setting off a chain of events that will change everyone's lives.

I loved the depth of the relationships between the characters and how, with each POV (the two MC's) we got so much history and background that explained a lot about each character and the reasons why they were the way they were. It slowed down a bit for me in the middle but everything about this world and magic system was so rich it pulled me in. I also don't think it needed to be as long as it was, but things picked up in the last third and I loved every second of it. Navin and Roshan and their crew were so precious I can only hope we'll get more from this world!
