Deep River Night by Patrick Lane

So I won this book quite some time ago as a Goodreads giveaway. It finally made it to the top of a pile, so I read it.

I was of two minds with this book as far as ratings go. If I was to rate this solely on the writing itself, it might have gotten a 4. The writing was very poetic, very descriptive, and it flowed really well. But when you factor in the almost complete lack of any sort of conflict, the plot just sort of falls flat for me. I guess you can call this a slice-of-life kind of story, but I needed more.

If the only real conflicts didn't come in the last couple chapters, with only a cursory investigation and wrap-up, maybe the plot might have been a little more satisfying.

All-in-all, it wasn't a bad book, it just failed to hold my interest for long stretches of time because nothing happens.
