The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy Primary Phase
by Douglas Adams, Simon Jones, Rula Lenska
I feel so privileged to have been a Radio 4 listener in my late teens so that I heard the original broadcasts. I completely fell in love with Hitchhikers Guide in the first few minutes and waited each week for the next episode.
Whenever ever I talk to fellow fans of the books I'm always proud to boast that I heard the original broadcasts first.
Next came the books and the cassette tapes. But there I stopped. I wasn't able to accept TV or film adaptations. Maybe now with the technology able to make Men in Black or Avatar they could get close.
Thank you Douglas, Simon and the folks at the BBC who took the risks, put such a brilliant cast together (or perhaps as we hear in the interviews at the end, not quite together) and produced one of the masterpieces of my lifetime. Not forgetting the Radiophonic Workshop who were also ahead of the curve.
There is even joy listening to the opening announcements and closing credits as they and the theme tune reinforce the radioness.
