Northlanders, Vol. 6: Thor's Daughter
by Marian Churchland, Simon Gane, Matthew Woodson, Brian Wood
God damn this ruled.
Made an offhand comment on twitter about how crazy the siege of Paris must've been, and someone recommended this comic. It's first story is set during the siege, from the pov of Mads, a minor captain on the viking side. There's tons of great battle art and some cool architectural stuff too--love that they added the wooden hoardings to the castle, that kind of thing often gets left out.
The other two stories are likewise told in a minor key, and that's really what drew me in. One's about a hunter, alone in the north, and the other is about a girl leaving her island home in the Hebrides.
Gotta check out the rest of the series now.
