puddventures 's review for:
Best Served Cold
by Joe Abercrombie
DID NOT FINISH: 35%
DNF 35%. I got about a third of the way through before I had to put this down permanently.
The summary for this book intrigued me because it seemed like the kind of twisty-turny plot you get with a lot of murder mysteries, only this time the main characters was the victim and lo! She survived. There were some elements I liked (there's a poisoning plot at some point in the first third that was rather clever) but it got WAY depressing. Abercrombie paints a very seedy, disillusioned fantasy world, which may work for some folks but is 100% not the reason I read fantasy.
