Good book overall. I really enjoyed Everett's arguments against historically asserted justifications for slavery though the protagonists voice. The concept of 'slave' as a language and race was very interesting to me. There's little subtlety in the book and that's perfectly fine.

I think I may have appreciated the novel more had I read the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn before.
