Matriarch: A Memoir
by Tina Knowles
emotional
hopeful
inspiring
reflective
sad
slow-paced
I’m not gonna lie, I came for the Beyoncé tea. But Ms. Tina starts way back with her childhood. I get that she’s more than a mother and had a full life before marriage and kids, but I definitely took my time in the first act.
There were some interesting parts about her upbringing and formative years, but the later chapters are where it really landed for me. The nostalgia and personal connection hit so much for me here.
Overall, it’s well written and honest. Not a tell-all, but a heartfelt look at her journey, and everything she’s carried and passed down to the next line of matriarchs.
