The Three Body Problem is a famous book, and for very good reason. It deals with heavy themes of humanity and it's right to exist. The science fiction of the book is informed and intelligent. While some characters are given way more import on the world stage than is believable, it is understandable that the author did it because keeping up with the plot would be infinitely more difficult if we constantly had to deal with new characters. 

It is absolutely a must read for fans if science fiction. But be prepared for heavy science and heavy themes. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
