One of the Girls by Lucy Clarke

3.0

One of the Girls by Lucy Clarke was an easy, quick read that didn’t require too much of me as a reader. While I did enjoy it, I felt like this plot line has been done before and unfortunately, done better than it is here.

Set on a picturesque Greek island, bride-to-be Lexi and her five friends arrive to celebrate her hens weekend in a stunning villa on the coastline. The six women have very different personalities and as the weekend unfolds, we discover they each have secrets or ulterior motives. And before the weekend is over, someone will be murdered.

For me, the highlight of the book was the sun-soaked beauty of the Greek islands. It was a fantastic backdrop and made my want to go on a holiday there immediately! But the rest of it was just ok for me – none of the characters were particularly likeable, the secrets and reveals were predictable, and the ending made me immediately think of a well-known popular book (I won’t say what book as I feel it will give too much away for anyone wanting to pick this up!). The blurb says it is a “twisty psychological thriller” but I feel this is really overstating it.

I know I’m probably in the minority with my opinion on this one as I have seen many great 5-star reviews from readers who have loved it but sadly it just missed the mark for me.
