Life's Edge: The Search for What It Means to Be Alive by Carl Zimmer

4.0

What exactly is life? How do we define it? What’s the history of the science behind identify life? Is there life we’ve yet to discover on other worlds and our own? All these questions and more are discussed in this book by Carl Zimmer.

I love a bit of pop.sci and this one doesn’t disappoint with its accessible look at the juncture of biology and philosophy. It’s one that will percolate with me for a few weeks at least while I work out where I stand on some of these topics. What I thought life was has been totally thrown into question. I definitely need some time for reflection before I leave this book behind altogether but I just love it when a book does that to you, leaves an impression in the form of a question! Fascinating read!
