Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's new book has all of her signature touches: complex and independent female protagonists, scathing social observations, delicious literary writing. Has many echos of Americanah, in terms of both style and plot, but I did not mind because I just find her writing so readable. It resonated in particular because part of the novel is set in the DMV, the area where I live. Sometimes I felt like she was writing about my neighbors. And she did not hold back.
In Kadiatou's portion, it stuck with me when she marveled at how large and close life's mysteries are when she was with her baby. I like to read stories like these, they feel so close to true that they show up in my own life in little ways for a long time.
