I really wanted to like this book but unfortunately I found it really difficult to read. Quinn’s struggles with internalized anti-blackness was both relatable and frustrating. I relate to her experience growing up in predominantly white neighborhoods and dealing with feeling whitewashed and disconnected from black culture.
This book brought really good discussions about stereotypes and not feeling “black enough” that I felt really grateful for as some who struggles with her own black identity. I see myself in Quinn which is probably why I’m so frustrated with this book. I found the pacing of the book really slow at times and the blackmail part of story seemed to fade in the background at times. After they kissed I didn’t care to move on.
Overall a solid 3 star read ⭐️⭐️⭐️
