The Five People You Meet in Heaven
by Mitch Albom
Eddie has lived a pretty unremarkable life and as the story unfolds, we find out that he felt pretty unfulfilled by it and wondered whether he could have made more of it.
As he travels through ‘his heaven’, he meets five people who have either had an affect on his life or he has affected theirs in some way. Some are obvious as soon as he meets them and some less so. Each person that Eddie meet shows him what effect he has had on their life, and the lives of others, which shows that his life did have purpose and that everyone is connected in some way.
Ultimately after Eddie has met all these five people, he can then go on to ‘heaven proper’. Of course, there is a chance that he will be one of another person’s five people!
Whilst I enjoyed this book - it was an interesting idea for a story - I felt that the characters lacked depth. That said, I did enjoy it and I would recommend it as a novel for when you want to read something undemanding!
