The plot of this book revolves around the fictional island of Thisby, home of the water horses that live in the sea nearby. Every year, the island hosts The Scorpio Races, where riders mount vicious and wild water horses for a chance to race to fame and glory.
I did a combined read/listen of this book and the audio book, in particular, is excellent. Though written for grades 7-9, the writing does not feel juvenile. The book is original and engaging, with what I am calling a perfect ending. I listened to the last chapter four times, it was that good.
