Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray
3.0

This novel is one of those serial compilations which makes it uneven. It seems like an accurate and sad commentary on human nature.  All our striving is so much vanity. We are all too selfish and too self-serving and the results are misery. All would benefit from the injunction to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
