Blueberries: Essays Concerning Understanding by Ellena Savage

2.0

Ellena Savage is clearly a talented writer, and no essay proves it better than the opening 'Yellow City'. The rest of the collection sadly doesn't have the sufficient wit and energy to live up to the expectations; the various experimental essay format she makes use of are interesting at a first glance, but become gimmicky as soon as you realise how aimless and lacking in substance the essay itself is. 2 stars feels too low for something that I did not have a bad time reading & found to be rather intellectually stimulating, but Blueberries ultimately strikes me as unexceptional.
