A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

Conor is going through an especially rough time in his life. His mom has cancer, and for so long it's just been the two of them. So far he's been able to manage. But at night he's started having these crazy dreams where a monster comes to tell him stories, and Conor learns surprising lessons from them. When his mom starts getting worse, his grandma comes to take care of him, and she and Conor don't get along. Even his dad who abandoned them and remarried comes, so Conor knows it's serious. In this book, we see a young boy's struggle to find acceptance.

I think I liked this book. There were things that I didn't see coming, there were things that I thought were gonna happen but they didn't...it was interesting. I think it offers some insight for how we come to find the courage to say the difficult things that we don't want to say, and learn just how strong we are.
