Moon Knight, Volume 1: The Bottom by Charlie Huston

4.0

marvel's batman! no, seriously. i've heard it before but now i'm sure. this is marvel's take on batman. (or daredevil. or iron-man. i don't know. all of these heroes are carbon copies of each other anyway.)

but when you get a ultra rich guy with a hidden lair under his mansion wearing a weird suit screaming "vengeance!!" every two pages, it's hard NOT to think about bruce wayne. he even has his little mooncopter and crescent darts. the characters are similar too. in a way. they are both human in a world full of superheroes and they take the matters into their hands in their respective cities. marc has this monologue about wearing white that reminded me SO MUCH of what batman says about himself/his suit. but of course he wears black. on the other hand, marc is definitely mentally unstable and it is explored in the comics. while bruce has his share of problems, batman comics are never directly ABOUT his mental illnesses. (see? plural. many would say batman is A-okay! no problems at all. epitome of good mental health. nope. but at least moon knight explores that side of heroes and doesn't leave room for questions/denial.)

okay. i should stop with the batman comparisons and get to the story itself. i thought it was interesting even though some things definitely made no sense. (see: that happens when you start reading a character out of blue and without any background information.) (oh and also: i skipped v1 and v2 so this was definitely expected.) i will continue reading the rest. i only started reading these because i wanted to read the marvel now! (two words: BETTER ARTWORK) run but didn't want to do it before reading his other runs. i hope they are worth it.
