Yona of the Dawn, Vol. 1
by Mizuho Kusanagi
Reading Reindeer December Challenge
Prompt: Comet--5 star prediction
Welp, that prediction came true.
This is an incredible first volume. Kusanagi went all-out giving Yona, Hak, and Su-Won depth, character, and personality. The paneling and art were phenomenal, I could feel the care Kusanagi put into each panel. The world is interesting and while I'm not a huge fan of manga with political themes, there's enough intrigue that I think I'll be good. I'm very curious to learn more about Su-Won and the other tribes as well as seeing Yona develop as a character. There's definitely a spark in her, she's just so overcome with grief and trauma that it's hidden right now. I've heard that her development is a slow burn and while I feel that may put off some people, I'm all here for it.
I've had my eye on this series for awhile and I'm glad I decided to give it a chance. There's so much in this volume and yet I'm already wanting more. I can't wait to see where this story goes.
