Dark Passage by David Goodis
3.0

I think if I had read this back in the 40's I'd probably give it 4 stars. Dark Passage is a good noir novel about Vincent Parry, who convicted for a murder he didn't commit escapes prison and gets entangled with a woman who wants to save him and more murders. The book creates quite an atmosphere and I liked most the characters. The 40's dialog was fun for me but there is so much time spend on cigarettes! I get it, smoking was big back then but asking for a cigarette and the process of smoking just took up too much text for me. I also thought there'd be a bigger punch made from Parry's facial reconstruction than what happened in the book. It's still a fine noir and it's part of a Goodis collection I have so I'll get back to more in the future. I've also got to see the movie now.
