This was my July BOTM selection and I enjoyed it much more than I expected to. I was a little hesitant because the book was tagged as salacious in the BOTM description. While there was a lot of innuendo and 'off-screen' stuff going on, there really was only one chapter that got explicit. There was a lot of cursing, though, so if that bothers you, it might be best to avoid this book.
That said, the story was interesting and kept me reading. There was plenty of drama between the siblings and their mother. The romance was pretty predictable, though, and I could have done without it. The story could have stood on its own without the romance aspect. I kind of guessed part of the big reveal, though not completely. I was disappointed in the ending. It was a bit of a let down after the build up to get to that point. I would have liked an epilogue to tie up all those loose ends.
One fun element was all the 'real-life' personalities that the story modeled some characters on. Most were minor references, but they were there! The billionaire who started out building computers in his parents garage and ended up with a line of innovative products that changed the world. (Steve Jobs?) The con artist investment advisor who cheated friends and family out of millions with his pyramid scheme (Bernie Madoff?). The two European princes from the same royal house that no longer speak to each other. (William and Harry?)
I really enjoyed this book and I'm glad I chose it. There is a lot to discuss and the book would make a great pick for book clubs!
