Always the Almost by Edward Underhill
3.0

Honestly, this book would've been a 4 stars read were it not for the slur and the cheating.

The author is a man. The character who said the slur is a man. They are NOT lesbians, and therefore they have no right to use dyke. (Before you come attacking me: I am a lesbian). It doesn't matter that it was in a dialogue where the character was relating something that happened to someone he knew. It wasn't necessary. Eric could've simply said her ex had been called a lesbiphobic slur. He didn't NEED to say it. I am honestly sick of the lesbiphobia in books, even unintended. A man, cis or trans, gay or straight or bi or pan, has absolutely no right saying the word dyke. (Also, this storyline could've been changed. Lesbiphobia isn't a plot point, I'm sorry.)

As for the cheating. It's not that I minded it. It was just unnecessary to me. I get that queer people can be messy too, that we fuck up, that we hurt the people we love unintentionally. But there was A BIT TOO MUCH of cheating for me. Miles could have understood where he stood with Shane without the kiss. And really, Paige could have talked to Rachel instead of having another fucking relationship on the side. Nice way to paint lesbians, Edward, thanks.

Other than that, the book was fine, Eric and Miles were cute, etc. etc. etc.
