White Nights
by Fyodor Dostoevsky
Upon finishing the book, I initially thought of giving it less stars because I felt something incomplete in my reading experience. Funnily enough, I realized that the different aspects of the book show what it’s like going through limerence and in emulating such a fleeting connection. The protagonist shares a long background of himself in a slow attempt to deepen bonds with Nastenka, only for him to suffer an unfortunate fate of being “friend zoned.” And so the story just ends all of a sudden the same way the protagonist is left with nothing after all that he has hoped for. Yes, how crazy limerence is.
