One Second After is reminiscent of Alas Babylon as a post apocalyptic dystopian story and conjured up conflicting thoughts on the book. The plot premise focused on the impact of an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack was a 5 star premise. The book is thought provoking to a 4 star level. The writing, political and religious bias, and the cheesy nature of some of the scenes and story elements were 3 stars. The combined review yielded 3.5 stars. The lower rating does not diminish a strong recommendation to read the book because of the important realistic potential for an EMP attack.
