What I Loved:
I was a huge fan of Vampire Academy. In fact, though I joined in late in the series, I'd be able to claim with just a little hesitation that I enjoyed the series more than I did Harry Potter- and that's saying something. That being said, I enjoyed Bloodlines, but I was sad about leaving Rose, Dimitri, Lissa, and even Christian. Having Adrian in Bloodlines helped, but I was majorly lamenting over the end of Vampire Academy- not to mention the other series that I had fallen in love with that Richelle wrote.
That being said, I wasn't going to miss out reading The Golden Lily, as it was still written by Richelle, and yeah... I'm a bit hooked on her writing.
I absolutely loved The Golden Lily! I'm once again hooked, and very annoyed that the next book in the series, The Indigo Spell won't be out until February of next year... a full seven months with no new stuff from Richelle... this is truly tragic!
But enough about the amazing mastermind behind the Vampire Academy/Bloodlines books. What makes The Golden Lily so fantastic? Well, for starters there's Adrian. I loved Adrian in Vampire Academy, and he just didn't have enough scenes in Bloodlines, but he's all over The Golden Lily! Full of his usual snark and attitude, we also see much more depth and insight into his character- one might even suggest he's growing up! But I won't be the one to make that judgment yet.
Also, while I've never been a huge fan of Sydney, this book does make me much more sympathetic toward her. She's been raised, much as Rose in Vampire Academy had, to believe a certain set of truths that in the real world are being challenged. While I love snark, and it's true Sydney doesn't offer that like Rose does, I also love intellectual and deep thoughts- and Sydney does have a lot of those. Also, her social lack-of-knowledge is really endearing- especially to this Aspie.
What I Didn't Like:
It ended. Seriously. I read this book in just two sittings- stopping only to sleep when I got too tired. Also, the fact that it ended and I don't get more until February. Very sad. (Though, if you are near a WalMart the first chapter to The Indigo Spell can be found in books with a sticker indicating so.)

Not too much to say in the wrap-up here that wasn't said above. If you have read Bloodlines but not Vampire Academy, I highly advise going back and reading through the Vampire Academy series. While I didn't feel this was as necessary with Bloodlines, I really feel like background knowledge from the other series of the characters really enhanced the reading of The Golden Lily.
