Beauty and the Mustache
by Penny Reid
Book 4 of Knitting in the City / Book 0.5 of Winston Brothers
I seem to be on a Penny Reid read-a-thon. Once more, we are offered a very entertaining romance, with quite a good dose of humour. What do you expect with so many siblings! However, there is a more serious vein too, dealing with palliative care, bereavement, and abuse.
I’m also noticing how Reid challenges gender and social issues, more in some books than others, but always present.
Finally, I’m addicted to the quotes she uses at the beginning of each chapters. These have a habit of following a theme, most of the time literary, showing her breadth and depth of knowledge. Here she goes for a philosophical angle using quite a few quotes from Nietzsche.
”Perhaps truth is a woman who has grounds for not showing her grounds.” - Friedrich Nietzsche
“The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.” - Socrates
“If we couldn’t laugh, we would all go insane.” - Robert Frost
