Change Your Questions, Change Your Life: 10 Powerful Tools for Life and Work by Marilee G. Adams
2.0
Concept: 2.75/5. The concept of this book is to change your life through intentional question asking and a mental model shift. By going from a Judger to a Learner, one is able to shift away from the negative and focus on the soft skills that can set one up for success. It is a system thinking approach that uses questions and question thinking as a key element. An example would be shifting from “what is wrong with me?” to “what do I value about myself?”. The theme of this book is by changing the questions, one can change their results.
The concept was fine but it could have been shorter and more condensed. The writing style itself was not my favorite and the concept was a bit simplistic compared to other mental thinking models I have read in articles prior.
Structure: 2/5. This book has 12 chapters and an epilogue. Each chapter follows an example format about Ben - an employee who is struggling at his job and in his marriage. It is mostly conversations between him or his question thinking coach. The prose uses a lot of example boxes, quotes, and exclamation marks which was not my personal favorite. It is 178 pages of content with a 44 page workbook at the end.
Pacing: 2.5/5. This book is medium to slow paced. The concept is easy to follow but the author is a bit wordy. The example feels drawn out which makes the book feel slow at times.
Overall: 2.5/5 stars but rounded down to 2. This book was longer than it needed to be and I didn’t care for the writing style. The concept was easy enough to understand.
Mood: personal development, self help, question asking, strategic thinking
