This book just came at the best time. It has been such a long time that I was so thoroughly absorbed in a book and did not want it to end!

I had watched the movie in the past (about 10 years ago) and it was unexpected. I went in with no expectations and was quite content with how it went. I haven't thought about the movie for years until 2 days ago, when my long-awaited hold in the library finally arrived.

There's something magical in this story, tender yet bittersweet. Almost like An itself. I adored Sentaro, wish we had more of Wakana and would have loved more time with Tokue. The story was touching in many aspects, and coming from someone who works with people often ostracised by others in society, this story provides an achingly haunting perspective on how these people endure and live despite their circumstances.

There's some true gems in there - and lovely quotes about listening and living which we need in these turbulent times.

I'll be thinking about this book for a while, and it's definitely going to stay with me.
