Alright, I'm just going to put all my thoughts down. This is a mini-review, I'm not covering everything. First off this book was such fun. It's one of my highly anticipated books of 2019 and I was just happy to read this book. Getting to read Simon and baz again was genuine really nice.

Let's just start from the beginning and go through it all. Going into this book I knew that it was going to be the whole aftermath of Carry On and basically what the hero does after they defeat the bad guy and whatnot, but I really did not expect the first few chapters to be what they were.
All of the characters were trying to find what to do with themselves now since it didn't turn out how they expected. Simon's depressed, Baz has communication issues (Simon too), and Agatha is MIA. The whole thing with Simon's depression really got me in the beginning. I was just sad reading it because I wanted Simon and Baz to be happy(#terribleboyfriends literally). It was like that for the first few chapters and I just wasn't into it.
Next, I want to touch on the relationships. I feel like in Carry On we did get Penelope and Simon scenes but I think in this book their friendship was really showcased. Also, the relationship between Penny and Baz, its great, the two of them are so comfortable with each other now.
Penny and Baz's relationship throughout the whole book just made me so happy. I really feel they have grown so much over the last year and have become great friends.
Now, as for Simon and Baz's relationship, I have so much- I mean. Pretty much the whole book I was just frustrated. But, we've gotta have the miscommunication trope. It took literally the whole book for them to finally figure it out and they didn't really even figure it out (#thankspenny). Anyway, I feel the different POV's really showcased their love for each other but they could never find the words and It was frustrating at times.
Along with Simon and Baz's relationship, I want to highlight somethings that we did get out of the book. Now, don't get me wrong we definitely did not get the good Snowbaz that the fandom was hoping for but we did get cuddles in the back of the truck (that was definitely a favorite scene).
Moving on to the characters, I love Shepard. His character is just fun and I am very happy that he is now apart of the gang. Also a possible love interest for Penny (possibly, Agatha?).
Ha! Now that I know he's literally cursed I'm laughing at this quote. But, I'm really excited to see what will happen to/with him in the next book and what the whole 'curse' is about.
I love that we got more from Agatha during this book. Though she didn't have as much of a need as the trio she still was interesting. Everyone's character was quite distinct. I really enjoyed that. Since there are so many different POV's and I was usually listening to the audiobook, it was really nice to be able to easily differentiate between the characters quickly because of their personalities.
Finally, Baz. My boy. Baz was my favorite character from the start and that stayed true throughout Wayward Son (Shep comes at a close second but Baz has just killed it). I feel during this book we were able to see another side of Baz. Since the story had so much to do with Vampires we were really able to learn more about that side of him and see him in a new light.
It was so easy to envision Baz's outfits His Gay-Vampire vibe was really shown during this book. feel like he's always hidden himself and he just doesn't during this.
Alright, Finally I'm going to talk about the plot. The plot was definitely not as amazing as Carry On but that's okay. I still liked the adventure that they went on. It was really interesting to see America from their perspective. All of Nebraska was just great to read. I really couldn't tell what The Vampire King was planning on doing, and I wasn't crazy surprised when he turned on them but It was still a twist and I liked it. The plot was not bad, it just wasn't great. I feel like it was simply because this is the in-between book. By the end of the book, I realized that the plot wasn't that major and it was more of a build-up to the next book (which okay but I mean, ya know?) Not felt really resolved like it did in Carry on. That's my only complaint.
Overall, I will give this book 3.5. I enjoyed it, Rainbow Rowell has a nice witty writing style and It's just fun to read her books. Definitely excited to get another Simon Snow book in the future!
