Divergent by Veronica Roth

5.0

**As you finish Divergent, if you don't get to Insurgent right away, there is a handy recap on the author's blog. I didn't read the Insurgent reviews (to avoid spoilers) until after I was done, and this recap is great if you don't read the books back to back.

Most of my friends loved this book ... and I did too. I'm just SO behind the times, as most people read this over a year ago. But I DO actually prefer reading series back to back, rather than anxiously awaiting the next installment. I read the first two Hunger Games together, then did have to wait for the final book, and my timing here looks similar. I have Insurgent on hold at the library (and should get it soon) ... if I had it here waiting it would be my next book. I'm not DYING for it, as this first book did wrap up (didn't leave me hanging), but I am curious to find out how the story continues on.

I can see why this is compared to the "Hunger Games" trilogy ... the strong/fighting female protagonist, the different factions (somewhat similar to the sectors), the dystopian setup/revolution, a little romance thrown in. Even the cover looks a tiny bit like the mocking jay pin, don't you think? I do think maybe I liked this book better though.

It was an easy, quick, compelling read. I did find myself highlighting some "words of wisdom", and I LOVE reading the quotes others highlighted too http://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/13155899 ... it's just a quick way to relive parts of the book (as I don't own it, but got it from the library).
