Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo

5.0

Elizabeth Acevedo is officially my favorite author of all time. The way she has with words... I get fully transported into the story; I felt so deeply everything that Camino and Yahaira felt in every moment.

My heart ached for them whenever they struggled, it soared when they triumphed. I was so deeply invested in their happiness and their friendship.

Family relationships are my favorite to read about in stories, and I’ve yet to read an author that paints more beautiful stories of family than Elizabeth Acevedo. I cried a steady stream of tears for the last ~fifth~ of the book or so; her writing is so moving that it’s physically impossible for me to hold in my emotions.

Clap When You Land will undoubtedly be one of my favorite reads from this year, along with The Poet X. If you’ve been waiting for a sign to pick up an Acevedo book, this is it.

P.S. I adore Dre. We all need a Dre in our lives.
