Wilde in Love
by Eloisa James
I don't read a lot of romance, but I was given this book and actually found it to be quite enjoyable! The main characters, Alaric and Willa, bicker and have mixed feelings about each other which is always fun. It's a bit reminiscent of Elizabeth Bennett & Mr. Darcy in that way. I was in the mood for something light and fun, and this definitely fit the bill! The character interactions frequently made me laugh and I'm interested to know more about some of the side characters, which I assume will come in later books in the series. The book is definitely predictable, but that's part of the appeal I think when you just want a fun, feel-good sort of story.
Later in the story there are some steamier bits and I did want to make one comment on that. I really appreciated the fact that Alaric is incredibly careful not to push past Willa's boundaries in terms of physical intimacy. I have a serious aversion to stories that act like ignoring the importance of consent is acceptable or even sexy. This book did a great job of depicting a relationship that developed with time and a male lead who shows restraint. I applaud the author for that since society sometimes gives men a pass as if they are unable to exhibit any self-control. Again, I have very little experience reading in this genre, but I hope my thoughts are helpful!
