Lover Eternal by J.R. Ward

3.0

What I like about the BDB series as a whole is that it’s sort of this epic, ongoing, lots of moving parts type of series. In Lover Eternal, the “background” pieces are fantastic. Butch’s continues integration in the Brotherhood, John Matthew, Bella and Zsadist, etc.

However, Mary and Rhage’s story is pretty meh. While I get that Mary thinks she’s being punked by Rhage’s interest in her and her fears of someone watching her die - it takes too long for her to come around and to feel like she’s really with Rhage. Rhage is afraid of hurting Mary so he’s also emotionally back and forth. But what really killed it for me was the cheating, under the cloak of “my body needs this and you can’t give it to me” was really icky and I had a hard time coming around after that. When things *finally* come together for them, the book abruptly ends.

Honestly the best part of this book is the anticipation of Zsadist and Bella’s story which is up next.
