The Road was absolutely heartbreaking. It didn’t have much of a plot, but it didn’t need to either. The story is about fatherhood, so I think more complex lore would’ve been distracting. I didn’t know much about it going in and I was pleasantly surprised. I highly recommend it if you’re a fan of McCarthy’s writing style and want something “lighter” than his other books.
Graphic: Death, Suicidal thoughts, Grief, Death of parent
Moderate: Gore, Cannibalism
Minor: Ableism, Pedophilia, Slavery, Pregnancy
The ableism refers to a scene towards the end of the book where the child says the word “retard”.
