An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

5.0

An Ember in the Ashes keeps the reader on the edge of their seat with its tension and action. Tahir succeeds in describing an oppressive regime and in infusing magic in the world. Some of the violence--in particular some of the earlier scenes--are a bit difficult to absorb. But the dual points of view approach is effective, and both protagonists have great character progression. It's easy to become immersed in this well-written, fictional world.
